Brief Overview of Quick Rolled Oats
Quick rolled oats are oats that have been cleaned, hulled, heated to stabilize the enzymes for long term storage, and then rolled into extra thin flakes so that they will cook in less than 5 minutes. According to Wikipedia,  "Milled oats are an excellent source of thiamine, iron, and dietary fiber. Oat products also contain beta-glucan, which may help people with Type 2 diabetes control their blood glucose level, and might also help stimulate the immune system to fight off bacterial infections." Brief Overview of Dehydrated Apple Slices
Dehydrated apple slices can be reconstituted with water in about 15 minutes and used in cooking or baking, or (our family's favorite) just eaten dry as a tasty and healthy snack.

Brief Overview of Sugar
Approximately 2,000 years ago in India, the end product of sugar cane evolved from an extracted juice to dry granules. Sugar was an expensive and fine spice that was traded to an ever increasing market throughout the Eastern Hemisphere. Due to improved production methods, additional cultivation in the Western Hemisphere, and other sources such as sugar beets, during the 16th and 17th centuries, sugar gradually became the bulk commodity it is today.

Below find the Nutrition Label for Sugar. The good news is that sugar, the #1 sweetener in the world, is very low in saturated fats, sodium, and cholesterol and it tastes good. The bad news is that sugar has no vitamins, minerals, or protein. All of its calories come from carbohydrates. While canned sugar is an excellent long term storage sweetener for improving the taste of many other food storage items, it should be used in careful moderation, especially by those with diabetes.
